Hot stuff

I really wanted to go into the studio today but the air con is being worked on at the moment and it isn't working. it would be really hot there as there are no windows to open and let a breeze in. The heat is bad enough at home let alone putting up with fumes and heat in the studio. maybe i'll go in on Monday. I want to do some paintings to enter into competitions for the first half of the year. I will probably do more of the new water paintings. Everyone that has seen them really likes them, so I figure that is a good sign :-)

I am also a bit frustrated with the rain. I know we need it, but I like to skate outdoors for exercise and I didn't get my endorphin fix today... uh, oh, cranky Sue tomorrow... ;-)

The dark side

I haven't written for ages and I am having trouble explaining my concept for the murals...
it is something I have always had trouble with, unless I am solely concentrating on theory subjects and just writing all the time. For me it is hard to switch sides of the brain and go to the logical side. The dark side... lol

phew

I've nailed it! the concept and design for the mural is pretty much done :-) phew! relief! now all i have to do is the practical stuff like... how it will get it done... details, details!

Mural

I have been invited to submit a concept for a mural in the underpass of the new Go-Between bridge in Brisbane!!!! This would be a fantastic project. Fingers and toes crossed that I get to the next stage :-)

Bored bored bored bored bored psychogeography

So bored!!! I need uni already!!! I am spending too much time in my head making up stuff to worry about. I am no good at having holidays. Geez! How ridiculous :-) Is this an insane artist thing or a crazy Sue thing?

I might go for a walk around my suburb today and record spaces. Do some psychogeographic research.

Productive painting day

I had a very productive day in the studio today. got everything done that I wanted to and more :-) did a couple of doodles that you can see above. just for fun.

Pimped bike

I have pimped out my bike to ride to the studio at uni :-)

I think the pink streamers will REALLY add to the riding experience. The contrasting colours make a bold statement! :-)

It has been so hot lately that i have been catching buses to uni, but no more! i live about 30 minutes walk from uni which is a little too far. Riding the bike will be easier, except for highgate hill part... i might walk up that bit.

I got a new bell, basket, front and back lights and a new padded seat that is really springy! hahaha. at least i will be able to ride the bike without getting a sore ass :-) Now all I need now is some elastic strap thingys to make sure my laptop doesn't fly out of the basket when i go over a bump. I also thought it would be cool to attach some sort of rack to the bike so I can carry huge paintings... you know like surfers do with their boards... no? maybe not.

Going in to the studio today and hopefully staying most of the day. Got stuff to do. I want to finish the paintings that I started on Tuesday, make another one that is sitting in my head and maybe also do some experiments just for fun.

new work

I spent about 5 hours in the studio today, working out my painting arm. It was so hot in Brisbane today and the studio was nicely air conditioned so it was perfect :-) Also working on another piece similar to the lakes one :-) I am currently listening to a derby playlist in the studio and have just been introduced to a band called 'the sonics'. So COOL!!! It is fun to dance and paint at the same time :-0 no mistakes :-)

progress

New work

Off to the studio again today. I am working on a new painting for the exhibition in February at Ryan Renshaw's Gallery. Can't wait!!! The painting will be similar to others I have recently done but bigger (and betterer). Not sure what colours I am using yet but am looking towards greens and blues at the moment. It is so great to be back in the studio. Not quite in full swing yet but I am building up to it. I am finding that I am loosening up a bit and I am not so self conscious with my mark making, which is fantastic! The painting I have done so far looks more 'authentic' or something? if you know what I mean...

Got back into the studio today after about 2 months of not painting or making any art at all. It felt pretty good. Didn't do anything serious, it was all about play. Some of the stuff that came out surprised me.

I got my kraft paper to paint on. It is cheap and it doesn't matter if you stuff it up, you can just buy more. I gessoed it all and then started drawing. I created the 'wooly' looking drawing listening to The Eagles of Death Metal :-) perfect music for this random type of abstraction. The music is really important! :-)

I started cutting up my refidex and found a great shape which happened to be a lake. then I glued it onto the painting that I had started, to see what it looked like. Then I painted more of my own lakes. I have never done water before... I didn't realise what I had done until the end.

Did some other smaller pieces that need to be worked on some more. so happy to get back into the studio. I also took some photos of the landscape of my studio.

Kolinsky sable brushes

I wonder if the kolinsky sable brushes are made without hurting the animal? I can't find any reliable info on the net... I am guessing it would be different for each brand. I will have to look into this.

Art porn

Got all my art sterf sorted today. I was going to do some work but the art shop was closed... I will have to go somewhere else and get some brown paper to start some preliminary paintings on. it was really great to get it all set up though. i didn't realise how many brushes i actually have. That is what is known as 'art porn' >>> my $50 kolinsky sable brush is my favourite :-)

things to think about

I am thinking about quitting my casual job... i am not getting into the studio as much as I'd like and feel that it is stopping me from doing what i need to do. mmmm

but all that changes tomorrow! I am getting all my paintings out of my storage space and taking them home. then i am going in to the studio and setting up properly. maybe i will do some work also...
