Back to skool

At last it's back to uni tomorrow. I have been on holidays for 4 months now and I am so bored i can't believe it!!! An exhibition of work by honours students is on in the Whitebox (on the fourth floor ) at QCA for about a week (i think) if you want to check it out.

Burnett lane public art

Found out this morning that I have been chosen to create a mural in Burnett Lane in town :-)

I am really happy to be doing it. Not as grand as the Go-between bridge mural, but hey! i can probably get a lot more creative on this job :-) Looking forward to going for a personal site inspection when i get back to Brisvegas next week.

Obsession

Yesterday and today i have had new ideas for work. I started making them and then realised I didn't have the equipment to make the works and will have to wait till Friday till I get back home to continue. I actually considered going home from my holiday at Stradbroke Island so that i could start making them...

Beach or bottleshop?????

Back to uni next week so I am having a little holiday on Straddie this week at a friend's holiday house. the hardest thing I have had to think about today is whether to go to the beach or the bottle shop... the bottle shop won this time :-)

Subversion

I am reading psychogeography by Merlin Coverley. Here are some quotes that I like.

"The act of walking is an urban affair and in cities that are increasingly hostile to the pedestrian, it inevitably becomes an act of subversion."

I find this particularly relevant to Brisbane where a civil engineer is the lord mayor.

"Walking allows one to challenge the official representation of the city by cutting across established routes and exploring those marginal and forgotten areas often overlooked by the city's inhabitants. In this way the act of walking becomes bound up with psychogeography's characteristic political opposition to authority."

I think we can include roller skating in this also :-)

Found this really great MP3 >>> Psychogeography: discovering the mental terrain of the city

Smell-O-Vision

I have decided to get back to basics and start reading my psychogeography theory again. I am stuck and figure this would be a good way to get a bit of inspiration flowing.

Just read a totally unrelated story on the Adelaide now website and it has given me 2 ideas for work! They talk about taking your own space into another space and making smell-o-vision. Smell plays a huge part in memory. mmmmmm something to think about

Writen off

It just wasn't working for me today... stayed in the studio for about 2 hours and gave up. Maybe tomorrow will be better :-)

I do all my own stunts

The exhibition opening went really well last night. Lots of people came and I had fun. When I got there I was so nervous I was actually shaking. One painting on hold and hopefully sold next week :-) That would be nice.

Going into the studio tomorrow and probably all next week to make new work.

She made her getaway in broad daylight

Two and a half weeks until uni starts. I am looking forward to getting back into it. I am feeling a bit lost at the moment. I have stuff to do, but it is hard to get into anything in a big way because I know I will have to let it go in March. In a couple of months I'll probably be wishing I was on holidays again :-)

Going to Stradbroke Island in about a week. Can't wait!! It is so beautiful there.

Epiphany

WOW! My world just stopped for a second and I suddenly realised how much my life has changed from 7 months ago. Positivity is palpable and is filling the air. No matter what happens in the next few days/week, I think I will feel good anyway, cause so much good stuff is happening for me :-)

Went into the studio for a few hours today and finished off two of the paintings. I am really happy with these :-)

This one looks heaps better now. Still not sure if it is finished yet so I will have to just look at it for a while.

Tomorrow morning I am taking my paintings to Ryan Renshaw for the exhibition on Friday evening. Then I am working on my mural proposal. This week is going to be one of the biggest weeks I have ever had!! It is really exciting and nerve wracking at the same time :-)

Good but!

This one is my favourite!!! I am doing a big version of an earlier experiment. Still a little bit of work to go.

Not sure about this one yet. But I've still got more to do. The yellow just isn't doing it for me...

These photos are of the beginning stage

Docs are no good when you have a blister on the back of your ankle. I walked around all day with only one boot on :-)

Loving this one :-) When you're onto a good thing...

I suppose it wasn't so much of a spontaneous day, as I am doing big paintings of the initial experimental ones. Still had a good day but :-) I had one of those, 'geez I am lucky to be able to stay in the studio and paint all day instead of having to work in a job I hate' days. I feel like I am on my way to living the dream.

spontaneous

Two whole days in the studio tomorrow and Friday!!! I wonder what will come of it. I don't like to plan things too much. You never know what will present itself. The 'official Sue world' word for Thursday and Friday is Spontaneity.

New work

I managed to get into the studio very briefly yesterday and this afternoon. I have started another 4 paintings. They will be a combination of old and new stuff, mostly experimental at this stage :-) The photos are shite... the colours don't really look like the photos at all. I will remember to take my camera next time :-) and not use my phone.
