This is the week when I get serious about painting. I have been having trouble getting back into the swing of things at uni. The honours year is a lot different and I have been giving into self doubt and procrastination. No more of that! I ended up staying back at the studio till about 8pm and it felt great. This will be a regular thing on a Monday i think as it was really quiet. This weekend will be a good time to be there too. I have quite a few ideas for new paintings and I would really like to get them out of my head.

Today I finished two paintings. One specifically for the Churchie and the other for myself :-) Resorts where southerners come to take the waters 2 is very similar to a painting I did earlier on in the year. I made this one to put in the Churchie art comp. The entry is due next Wednesday so i had a good reason to get off my butt and do the work :-) I will enter 3 paintings but I am not sure what the other two will be yet.

I also saw one of my painting supervisors today, which was good. It got me thinking in a more focused way. I have ideas for beginnings of paintings but nothing has really popped into my head yet. But it is early days yet. I think I will stick with painting and installation. I was thinking about video and performance but maybe I could do that just for myself later on.

I am going to do some oil paintings next. I think it might make me think differently and force me to try new ideas. Always a good thing :-)

Still wanting to look at warehouse/commercial space to set up a studio with some other people at uni... hopefully it will still happen.

The cultural geographies of cities

Developing concern within academic, artistic and activist circles with exploring critically the cultural geographies of cities. This includes practices of studying, representing and telling stories about cities; it also involves ways of sensing, feeling and experiencing their spaces differently, and with contesting 'proper' orderings of space to allow something 'other' to emerge.
